The Holy places in and around Mak`kah


Ka`abah or Baitullah

It is the most sacred center of Islam, the House of God, around which the pilgrims perform Tawaf, Muslims, the world over keep their face towards it while offering prayer. The Holy Mosque where Ka`abah is situated is called Masjid-al-Haram. It is a cubical structure 15 meters high and 12 by 13 meters square. It is covered by an immense piece of black drapery (kiswah) which has verses from Holy Quran embroidered all around it in gold thread.


Rukun-e-Yamani

The southwest corner of Ka`abah is known as Rukan-e-Yamani since it faces Yeman.


Rukun-e-Iraqi

It is the Northeast corner of Ka`abah facing Iraq.


Rukun-e-Sham

It is the Northwest corner of Ka`abah facing Syria.


Muqam-e-Ibrahim

It is also an stone from Paradise used by Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to stand on it while raising the walls of Ka`abha. It is now protected in glass case situated in Mataf at a short distance from Multazim. One is bound to offer two rakat optional prayer (Nafil) after completing Tawaf and Saee.


Ghar-e-Hira

This grotto (Ghar) is located about 20 meters from Ka`abah on the top of hill called Jabl-e-Noor that can be seen while going to Mina. It was at this secluded place that the prophet (PBUH) was in the habit of seeking refuge for three years preceding his mission. It was in this grotto (Ghar) that the Prophet received archangel Jibreel and the revelation of first five verses of Holy Quran.


Hudaibiya

It is a place while on way from Jeddah to Makkah a little before the boundaries of Haram. There is Mosque over here. The Holy Prophet has entered into an agreement with infidels of Mak`kah. Bait-e-Rizwan (the oath of allegiance) was also executed here.


Janat-ul-Muallh

This grave-yard is in Mak`kah where Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadija (RAH) is lying buried besides many other companions of Holy Prophet (PBUH).


Masjid-e-Jin

This is the mosque where Jins (a sort of creatures, which are normally invisible to human eyes) listned the Holy Quran.


Masjid-e-Taneem

This mosque is about three miles form Mak`kah. It is also known as Masjid-e-Aisha. Usually pilgrims staying in Mak`kah don their Ihram here as Meeqat for Umrah.


Masjid Mashar-al-Haram

It is a big mosque in Muzdalfa.


Masjid-e-Shajra

This mosque is situated in front of Masjid-e-Jin.


Jabal Abi-Qabees

When a man named Abi Qabees built his house on this hillock, people named it Jabl-e-Abi Qabees. It is reported that this was the first hill that appeared on the planet earth.


Muvallid Shari

This is the house where Holy Prophet (PBUH) was born. Here now is housed a library.


The House of Hazrat Khadija

This is the house where Holy Prophet (PBUH) stayed till his migration to Madina. Most part of the Holy Quran was reveled on the Prophet here. It is a sacred house next to Masjid-e-Haram in Mak`kah.
